Ömer Demir (Ph.D) completed his undergraduate studies (1988) and received his Master's degree (1990) in the field of Political Science and Public Administration at the Middle East Technical University. He received his PhD degree from Anadolu University in 1993 in the field of Economic Methodology. Title of the dissertation is Normative Methodology of Positive Economics. He worked as an academic staff in until 2003 at Kırıkkale University. Between 2003-2008 he worked as president of Turkish Statistical Institue and vice-president of Higher Education Council of Turkey (2008-2012); the first rector of Social Sciences University of Ankara (2013-2015); president of Turkish National Exam Center (OSYM). He joined TÜBİTAK (Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) as board member for two terms (2012-2018) and also board member of Statistical Economic and Social Research and Training Centre For Islamic Countries (SESRIC) (2003-2008) and now he still is the representative of Turkey in the board of SESRIC. He has several books and articles on the relationships between economy, culture and society, namely on economics and ethics, institutional economics, economic methodology, economics of religion and behavioral economics.
