Çağla Ökten received her PhD in Economics from Northwestern University in 1999. Dr. Ökten's work contributed to understanding determinants of donations to non-profit organizations in USA and contributions to community organizations and role of social networks in Indonesia. She published articles on these topics in Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Population Economics and World Development. Dr. Ökten's article on donations has won second place in 2000 Virginia Hodgkinson Research Prize and her more recent work appeared in the 2016 Virginia Hodgkinson Research Prize winner Palgrave Handbook of Global Philanthropy. Her current research focuses on the economics of education. She published articles on college and major choice in Turkey in the Economics of Education Review. She is currently analyzing the effects of the recent higher education expansion in Turkey on gender gap and labor market outcomes. Dr. Ökten is an Associate Professor of Economics at Bilkent University, Turkey and has two children.
