Department member Dr. Barış Alpaslan has delivered a speech as a panelist in Women's Day Panel organized by Turkish Embassy at Amman, Jordan on March 8, 2019. The inauguration speech was given by Turkey's Jordan Embassy Murat Karagöz at the panel themed with "Economic Justice for Women".
As a member of Turkey's UNESCO Sustainable Development Commitee, Dr. Alpaslan has provided with information and statistics about the current situation of Syrian refugees, especially the womens, residing in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. He also mentions that while agriculture and textile industries are the prime sectors in which Syrian women refugees have been employed, presently their most important problem is being paid very low-wages.
Two Syrian refugees - Zad al-Kheir residing in Zaatri camp in Jordan and Oroub Nana residing in Turkey's Gaziantep province shared their experiences as refugees in two different countries. Jordan Senate Member Sawsan al-Majali has touched upon psychological pressures Syrian refugees confront in his speech.
